The Cathedral with Magnum Foundation and the Economic Hardship Reporting Project (EHRP) invite you for a special evening conversation. EHRP's Alissa Quark and photographer Matt Black will discuss new representations of economic strife in America. No longer contained in a series of “pockets” as it was 50 years ago, modern poverty today is an endless chain. Showing his project, The Geography of Poverty, Matt Black will take us through one such chain from a recent trip across the country.

Photographer and Associate Professor at Columbia University, Nina Berman, and her journalism students will follow the conversation with a short presentation of their group project inspired by the installation of The Geography of Poverty currently displayed along the Cathedral’s exterior wall along 110th Street (between Amsterdam Avenue and Morningside Drive). They’ve spent the past month looking locally at income disparity and rapid gentrification between 110th and 145th Streets, river to river.

This event, which is open to the public, is presented as part of a programming series for the current exhibition, The Value of Food: Sustaining a Green Planet, on view until April 3, 2016.
