The 34th Annual Spirit of the City celebration will pay homage to nations from which a wave of immigrants traveled to New York City in 1892—the year the cornerstone for construction of the Cathedral was laid and when Ellis Island opened. The chapels were dedicated originally as the “Chapels of the Tongues” referring to the languages or nationalities predominant in New York at the turn of the 20th century.

Moving between chapels to dine at community tables, guests will discover the chapels anew and discover culinary delights of these nations within each space.

For information on how to support The Spirit of the City, contact Priscilla Bayley at (212) 316-7570 or [email protected].

Proceeds from the evening underwrite the Cathedral’s mission: a place where all are welcome and providing year-round social service outreach, education, live performances and music, exhibitions, civic gatherings, and conservation and preservation.
