Flutes of Hope, an ensemble and music program established in 2012, pays tribute to the resilience and compassion of the Japanese people following the devastating March 2011 earthquake and tsunami in northern Japan. Flutes of Hope debuted at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in June 2012. This year's program features bamboo flutes, percussion, strings, and dance, inspired by the spiritual power of Phoenix: Xu Bing at the Cathedral.

With Ralph Samuelson, shakuhachi; Kaoru Watanabe, shinobue and taiko; Steve Gorn, bansuri; Sumie Kaneko, shamisen and vocal; Yukio Tsuji, percussion and shakuhachi; and Yin Mei, dance.
