On the evening of Good Friday, we feature members of the Cathedral Choir as soloists in haunting works by Pärt and Bach. Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano and Tenor join with Violin, Viola, and Cello for the beautiful Stabat Mater of contemporary composer Arvo Pärt. The simple vocal lines of the three singers combine with strings to create serene textures tailor-made for the space in the Cathedral. Following the Pärt will be a performance of Ich habe genug (BWV 82), one of Bach’s best known cantatas set for a solo baritone, solo oboe, and strings. The mellifluous melodies and the brilliant counterpoint will again resound in the space of the Cathedral as if it were another instrument. Come hear the drama of Good Friday set in relief through this glorious music as well as spoken word and congregational hymns. Admission is free.
