Highlight Tours
Tuesday–Saturday, 11 am and 1 pm; Sunday, 2 pm when no Spotlight Tour . Tours last approx. 1 hour.
Explore the Cathedral's newly cleaned and magnificently restored Nave. Learn about the art, architecture and history of this great sacred space from 1892 to the present. No prior reservation necessary. $6 per person, $5 per student/senior. All Highlights tours meet for registration at the Visitor Center inside the Cathedral entrance, at 112 Street & Amsterdam Avenue. Vertical Tours
Saturdays, 12 noon & 2 pm. Tours last approx. 1 hour.
Climb 124 feet through spiral stone staircases to the top of the Cathedral. Get a look at the huge scale of the nave restoration and study the grand architecture while standing on a buttress. The tour culminates on the roof with a wonderful view of the Morningside Heights area of Manhattan. Space is limited to 10 people, and reservations are recommended. Bring a flashlight. $15 per person; $12 per student/senior. All Vertical tours meet for registration at the Visitor Center inside the Cathedral entrance, at 112 Street & Amsterdam Avenue. Please call in advance as tours may be suspended due to Cathedral cleaning and restoration. Behind the Beauty: Spotlight on Geometry and Numerology
Sunday, June 28, 2 pm – 3 pm
What do a 5’7”-tall man, a lamb, “ROYGBIV,” the number 6, a rooster, 8 flower petals and A=pr2 all have in common? The answer: St. John the Divine! In this tour we will look beyond the aesthetic beauty of this great cathedral to find biblical messages revealed in stone, glass and, yes, even math. Come see how the left-brained converges with the right-brained to create the symphony of symbolism that is Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Led by Cathedral Guide, Andrew Griffin.

An American Cathedral: Spotlight on American History
Sunday, July 5, 2 pm – 3:30 pm
This tour considers the Cathedral as a nexus of medieval traditions and democratic values. Discover celebrated Americans who appear in the art in the Cathedral along with the traditional saints and apostles. The tour will discuss the Cathedral’s history and architecture within the context of American history, beginning with a vivid description of the Battle of Harlem Heights, fought on and around the Cathedral’s site in 1776. Conducted since 1990 by Senior Cathedral Guide Tom Fedorek.

Women in the Cathedral
Sunday, July 19, 2 pm – 3 pm
Explore the contributions of women, both secular and saints, and the way
they are honored in the Cathedral. Find influential women
including Betsy Ross and Susan B. Anthony depicted in stone and glass. Hear
the incredible stories of historical female saints and their achievements and
sacrifices. Led by Cathedral Guide Becca Earley.

The Urban Cathedral: Spotlight on the Middle Ages
Saturday, July 25, 1 pm – 2 pm
What does New York’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine share with the great medieval cathedral’s of Europe? How does it depart from that tradition? Join Senior Cathedral Guide John Simko for a tour of architecture and stained glass that focuses on St. John’s unique blend of modern New York and medieval Europe.
