| The two major efforts piloted by CCC evolved from the growing recognition that the individual efforts of Emergency Food Programs (EFP) are ineffectual in bringing about an end to the longer-term issue of hunger. The lack of food is not the only problem facing clients. Providing nutritious meals while vital, does not alone foster greater self-sufficiency and thereby an end to hunger. CCC is therefore working to transform the discussion in the anti-hunger community to focus on greater advocacy and coalition building as well as an emphasis on activities that go beyond traditional emergency services.
The Feed the Solution campaign is entering its third and final year of its funding from the Trinity grants program. Using the basket of CCC program activities as the model, this grass roots advocacy effort provides training via workshops and site visits to other EFPs in the Episcopal Church in order to replicate similar methods and types of services. In addition, FTS produces a weekly newsletter, press releases, and other advocacy related literature aimed at mobilizing the anti-hunger community.
In order to further institutionalize and expand the network to include other faith groups and anti- hunger organizations throughout the city, NYCCAH will staff and coordinate the newly named: Interfaith Voices Heard, Feeding the Solution campaign effective February 1, 2008. Existing Feed the Solution partner, The Hunger Action of New York State (HANNYS) will continue to inform campaign efforts outside of the city and coordinate advocacy opportunities for our churches and emergency food programs through their Faith and Hunger Network.
