Community Outreach Support Groups:

The issue of homelessness is addressed through an on-site direct service program for homeless men and off-site individual & group counseling, and technical assistance services offered through partner faith based and community organizations. These programs are staffed by the CCC Social Worker, Intake Coordinator and MSW interns.

Driven by the needs expressed by clients and recognized by other social service organizations in the community, CCC hosts and coordinates numerous support groups and issue forums in area shelters and senior housing sites. Open to many clients that are not consistently receiving any other form of social service counseling, these groups center on the issue of homelessness while also addressing the myriad of interrelated problems including HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, substance abuse, unemployment, aging, immigration, and physical & mental health.
CCC also engages children and youth to understand the nature of social justice and service to the community through these outreach services. This is actualized with Cathedral School children involved in a foster grandparent program with nearby residents living in the Amsterdam House nursing home, group activities created for the children in the ACT program, and youth participating in Nightwatch.

Trinity Place at Trinity Lutheran Church:  This LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgendered/Trans-sexual, Questioning) youth shelter is located at 100th and Amsterdam Avenue.  Currently CCC is working for a second year with this faith-based piloted project.  CCC’s role has evolved into two areas:  1) Providing off-site individual and group case management and intake services 2)  Supervision and program development for the social services provided in the shelter.  CCC is modeling this program based on the best practices learned running the New Hope Men’s Shelter.

The Inter-Faith Assembly on Homelessness and Housing:   This direct service and advocacy organization for homeless individuals began at The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine.  A CCC MSW intern will be placed with this group in the fall to provide after-care services to formerly homeless individuals through individual and group counseling.
